Our vision for the Elmer Chiu Legal Centre is to be a new type of law firm: one that is down to Earth, approachable, removes the legalese from advice, and educates clients on the legal process in plain language.

Our mission is to provide high end, cost-effective legal services to clients with good results using our extensive experience in the legal profession.

We make sure our client's matters are completely resolved in the most reasonable, cost-effective way possible, providing practical business-oriented solutions to complex client issues. Sometimes that can be done privately between those involved, but if necessary we will turn to the Courts, advocating clearly and effectively for determination of an issue. We are assertive while remaining professional to the opposition, ensuring that our clients' interests are protected while the Courts view both our clients and ourselves in the best light possible.

Elmer Chiu

I was raised in Calgary and graduated from the University of Calgary with distinction, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology in 2000. I then moved to Edmonton for three years to pursue my law degree at the University of Alberta where I graduated with my LL.B. in 2004. In July of 2006, I became an associate at one of Calgary's longest active law firms until 2012, when I became a Partner at that firm.

I created the Elmer Chiu Legal Centre to efficiently practice law and find practical cost-effective solutions for my clients (current and future). I do my best to keep my expenses as reasonable as possible so that I can pass along savings to my clients. I also choose to deal directly with my clients as much as possible during the important steps in their matter so that they are not bounced around from lawyer to lawyer such as is done at a larger firm.

I enjoy diversity in my clientele, assisting international clients as well as Albertans in large cities and smaller rural communities.

I am fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

Hockey is my main interest outside of the office, as I play in several competitive hockey leagues. I am also the acting Treasurer of the Calgary lawyers Hockey League and am involved with the executive committee. I volunteer at the University of Calgary’s Student Legal Assistance program designed to provide legal information to low income persons.

Courtney Fitzsimonds

I was raised in Arizona and came back to Calgary in 2002. I began working at my first law firm that year and have been fortunate to work with some of Calgary’s top lawyers. I started working with Elmer Chiu in 2010 and have enjoyed the experience immensely.

When I do manage to get some free time and I am not at the office, I enjoy yoga, reading, cooking and spending time with my family.
